Pick a question from our class exemplar and answer it with 1-2, well-written paragraphs! Do not forget to edit using a word-processing program. Because of the difficulties we've had with logging into Drive from home, I've posted a downloadable file as well as a link to the exemplar. |

During our interactive read aloud, you came up with some amazing inferences/conclusions about this book...
let's take it a step further and turn it into a digital conversation...
Have a look at the google doc where our conversation points are posted, and elaborate on one or more of them. There is no direct question for you to answer for this assignment. I am giving you an opportunity to add to our discussion in a creative way.
These are the only requirements:
-Your submission should be AT LEAST two paragraphs.
-Your opinions/inferences MUST be supported with evidence
-Your work MUST be thoughtful and ADD to our conversation.
-You give me a 4 on the effort scale.

Write a Diary Entry from any Character's Point of View.
Yes...any character! Your post does not have to be a typical diary entry. You do NOT need to start with "Dear Diary". It could just be an inner monologue! Maybe it's a letter/petition from the buffalo at the zoo arguing for Maniac to get his own pen! (But don't use my idea, come up with your own!) BE CREATIVE!
If you're having trouble, think about a character trait for your character!
EXAMPLES:
-If you think your character is iconoclastic, they might be talking about how they dislike the government, and how they don't believe in segregation between the East/West End.
-If you think your're character is arrogant, they might be talking about how they love themselves, and how they are just better than everyone else.
YOUR POST SHOULD BE AT LEAST TWO PARAGRAPHS LONG. EDIT IT!
YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR READING EVERYONE'S POST, WE WILL CRAFT RESPONSES TOMORROW IN CLASS!

At what point did you stop and think to yourself...Maniac is hilarious/weird/incorrigible/iridescent/mangy, or anything else?
Assignment: Use a quote from the book to tell everyone about your favorite part so far. After you type the quote, use your own words to explain why you like it so much!
here's an example of what it should look like:
"Suddenly I sat up straight. How much gas did we have? It was almost a miracle to see the Mobil sign. I touched Josie's arm, pointing, and we pulled off the road, waiting for the attendant to fill the tank.
"Good Idea," Josie said, and I had to smile at her.
She'd have driven till the tank was half empty, and might have never remembered."
I like this quote from the book because it shows how Hollis and Josie make such a good team. I can picture them meandering down the highway, and the fact that Josie is bewildered about the gas situation puts a little comedy into an otherwise tense situation. Most of all, I like how Hollis is so understanding and compassionate when it comes to Josie.
YOU must respond to at least one classmate's post!
