What is the North American Peace Game?

The North American Peace Game is an adaptation of John Hunter’s World Peace Game, a game-based learning experience that requires students to use their conditional knowledge about the Geography of the USA and apply it to solve complex problems, using 21st century research and collaboration skills.
EACH TEAM OF THREE STUDENTS WILL REPRESENT ONE OF THE USA'S FIVE REGIONS, EACH REGION ACTING AS A SOVEREIGN STATE. There is a weather goddess. There is a World Bank. There is a saboteur. At the start of the game, each group of students will be given a dossier of 20  environmental, economic, geographic problems, and the game doesn't end (approx. 2.5 months) until all the problems are solved. No one wins unless everyone wins. Students will encounter problems which simulate complex ordeals facing our country (labor laws, overpopulation, water pollution, natural disasters, resource shortages, droughts, etc.) They will examine the causes, debate solutions, and attempt to rectify the issues. They will do this based strictly on factual knowledge they have gained from studying the geography of the regions. In the end, the emerging message is that in a troublesome modern world, fresh perspectives from our nation's most capable thinkers (KIDS) can give hope to people who have lost it!

We have completed several social experiments and model crises throughout the school year in order to prepare us for the game. Check some of them out below the game-play and reflections!
