I think the theme of the story is no matter what people call you, you are what you want yourself to be. I think this because Sudds keeps being called a rat but he still wants to be third grade angel. When he keeps being told to be a rat and act like a rat he listens to everybody but really he should be what he wants to be a third grade angel. For example Joey thinks he has to be a rat but really he doesn't. He can be what he wants to be.

I agree with you I like how you said Joey doesn't have to be a rat because your right. Joey doesn't have to be a rat he can be what he wants to be.

I think that the theme is to not bully people for what they like to be or do in actons. I think this because Joey is making Suds be a rat when he does not want to be a rat, and he wants to be a angle. Also Joey is trying to make Suds change his actions like to steal or be rude. But when everything changed like when Sud’s turned into a rat .I thought more that the author is trying to teach the reader how to fight back if you are in this problem.Even if you aren’t in this problem but you know or see someone in this problem help them don’t stand there and act like you aren’t there, take acton . You can take acton by telling the person to feel what they like to be or do or even they can act like someone else .This can help because they might forget about being the rat or just their old self.So take acton and tell them to stop.

I totally agree with you Olivia you should always stick up for someone in a situation like this.I do have one question for you why do you think someone would change for no good reason? Great Job!!!

What I meant was that they didn't have to be bad for no reason.

Based on what I read, I think that the author is trying to tell you is that people change over time and when they get older. One reason I think that is because Suds said that “ I still want to be a third grade angle”. But now he is being a rat and doing mean thing like pushing people and taking things from littler kids than him that are either a first grade cry babies or a third grade angle. Another reason I think this reason is because he used to be scared to say “no” to his mom and mostly all he says to his mom now is “no”.

The Theme
I think theme is about growing up. I think this because the author said the book was about Suds being a rat not a third grade angel. It also said early on in the book Suds had a spider on his hand and all you heard was ´´ahhhhhh´´. Then later on in the book Suds picked up a black widow spider on his hand a walked to school with Judy Billings, with the spider. So I think Suds change from being an angel to a rat, which shows that he is trying to grow up. Now he also says no to his mom and talks back to her. I think that is why the theme is about growing up.

I think that the theme to fourth grade rats is that being a rat sounds terrible so don’t be one. The reason I say this is because all the things that are happening to Joey and Suds sounds like a lot. Joey got stung by a bee me improticuler hates when that happens. Then Suds hed to let a spider crawl on his hand then up his arm. If being a rat means letting bugs and insects and arachnids crawl on me count me out!

That was realy good Demetres. I like how you put a lot of evidence in the text but the thing i don't get is that all you talked about was the insect's. To me I just don't get it and it might make sense to you but it didn't to me .

I think that the theme of the story is that you don't have to do anything that you don’t want to do.suds did not want to be a rat because he wanted to be third grade angel. I think that because In the book suds said that he did not enjoy pushing kids of swings or stealing stuff from kids. In the book it also said that suds was scared to put a spider on his arm, jump of a roof, and say” No”to his mom.

I think the theme of Fourth Grade Rats is you can be what you want to be,instead of what other people are telling you,who you are. Another reason is that Joey said to Sudds that he had to bring a paper bag instead of bringing a flying elephant lunch box because Sudds had it since first grade.

I think the theme of the book is about not to bully someone who gets bullied all the time because he does not want to be in fourth grade. I know this because when the character suds said that he would flunk a test just to get out of fourth grade and be a angele again. And his mom asked him if he wanted a tudor to teach at school . thats why i think this is the theme of the book .

I think the theme is growing up. I think it's about as you get older life gets tougher, bullies, siblings, and more. Some people think that because people target them they need to get stronger so they act stronger by bullying other kids. Take Joey for an example he acts tough so Gerald the bully hit him when the bee was on his arm, to prove to everyone once he got stung he would cry but he didn't. When Suds wasn't as "tough" he was seen as an easier target so Gerald and his sister would bully him more. That's why I think the theme is growing up.

Based on what I read and the information I got from the text I think the theme of the story is that just because you’re getting older doesn’t mean you have to act differently. I think that in the text, Suds will learn from his bad behavior, become a good kid again, and then tell Joey that he needs to start acting like a kid and not like a eighteen year old.

I think Suds will learn from his bad behavior because in the text you can tell he is actually a very good kid.I also think he will learn from his bad actions because something bad will happen to him cause of his irresponsible actions.I think this will happen because when he started to act like a real rat he got a mouse trap on his toe,he is being made fun of ,and he is getting in trouble.

I finally think he is going to tell Joey that he should start to act like a kid and stop wearing seat bands. He will eventually become a big kid so enjoy being a little kid even if it's not always fun.

I think the theme of Fourth Grade Rats is that people change when they get older. Sometimes, people are scared of changing when they get older. Based on what the book says it sounds like that Joey has not always been a rat. And another reason I think that because Suds still wanted to be a third grade angel. Now that he is a rat he is fine. He is just like the other kids.He used to say yes to his Mom now he says no. And he gets detention and is now disrespectful. He smashed cake in a first graders face! Joey changed and Suds is a little scared of that change.

Leah,

I think poeple are scared to change and get older because getting older has more responsibilities and scared of what fourth grade will bring .Suds is scared to change I think that Leah because of the text and my context clues. Great Question Leah!

The theme of fourth grade rats is to learn an important lesson, and to be nice to other kids and to be respectful. In the book, Suds learns his lesson in the hard way. His friend joey tells him to do stuff that isn’t nice. For example, he told him to go on people’s roof. He also told him to be mean to others kids. I think that Joey should learn his lesson at the end of the book.Maybe Joey can’t stop being a fourth grade rat because he not being nice to kids and making fun of people.

I think the theme of fourth grade rats is you don’t have to be mean to be cool. I think this because when you are mean ,and you think your cool it shows you are just a bully. Nobody likes bullies because bullies are mean and rood. Bullies are always showing off and acting cool. What do you think the theme fourth grade rats is?

I think that the theme of the book fourth grade rats is that no matter what you are a rat or an angle be yourself . I think this because Joey said in the book that I have to be a rat because it's natures way He also said that he had to get rid of his uncool flying elephant lunch box from 1st grade. Joey also said Suds had to kick little kids of the swing.
I also think that because at the end of the story Joey becomes a angle and does not brink bulone sandwiches.

I think the main theme of fourth grade rats is don’t be someone your not. I think that because Suds was being a bad boy it's not because of him though it's because of Joey suds is a bad boy. Suds wouldn't be so bad if Joey was friends with him. But once Joey got caught being a jerk Sudsie wasn’t really a rat anymore. He was a growing up the good way the better way Suds confessed everything he did wrong. Also Judy Billings kind of forgot about him. So Suds kind of let her go like Judy Billings did.

The theme of the story is that it is hard grow up. You have to learn that being yourself is the best thing to do. Also you can't always listen to everything people say. Finally you have to learn to make up for what you did and tell the truth.

I think the theme of this book is how to learn how to grow up and how to move on. I think that because all throughout the book it showed how Suds was growing up. At the end the mom also said that being a rat and seeing that is wrong and how he thought that what he is doing is wrong. That is what i think the theme of the book is.
