Greetings, Scavenger! Garrison Griswold here to welcome the Flaherty School to the wonderful world of Book Scavenger. We are a community of book lovers, puzzle lovers, and treasure hunters. Are you too? Then come along and join us!
Here is how the game works:
FLAHERTY PARENTS SEE BELOW!!!
We are happy to invite fourth and fifth grade students to participate on a scavenger hunt journey to wherever it may lead. We are basing our scavenger hunt off of the book “Book Scavenger” but invite students to read and share whatever book they choose. We are hoping that the students will attach the template (see template sheet download at bottom of page) inside their book covers to encourage the next reader to read their book. The students will post clues on the Book Scavenger website and post when they hide and find a book: www.bookscavenger.com
Here’s how it works for the Flaherty kids:
Below you will find a download of our bookplate and a copy of the parent letter (in case you lose yours).
Here is how the game works:
- STEP 1: Read the book!
- Step 2: Hide the book in a public place for another reader to discover. Report the hidden book at HIDE & FIND BOOKS so other readers know to seek it out.
- Step 3: Share your experience on social media using #BookScavenger
- If you have FOUND a book, visit HIDE & FIND BOOKS to report your find. Then start at Step 1 and keep the cycle going. Let’s see how far these books can travel!
- And don’t forget the Book Scavenger motto:
- Read a book or choose a favorite book you’ve read.
- Find a book using the clues on the website, or hide your own first.
- Before you hide it, print out a bookplate to tape inside the book. You can find one at mrpestone.com/bookscavenger. Then, place your book in a sealed zip-lock bag--in case it rains and choose a location.
- Choose a hiding spot that isn’t out in the open and obvious--it shouldn’t be seen by anyone walking by. For example, tape it UNDER a bench or put it INSIDE the trunk of an old tree!
- If you choose a very public place, like the plaza or town center, we recommend asking a kiosk or booth to “hold” your book, or for someone in the town offices to “hold” the book--if they are willing to do so.
- Once you hide your book, write your clue and post it on the website (do this right away, it could take up to 48 hours for your clue to be posted!). Remember your clue mustn’t be too easy or too hard--we do want your books to be found and shared with kids all over our community. Remember kids from other towns may be looking on the website too!
- REMEMBER to post when you FIND a book too, so that others aren’t looking for the same book.
- BUT FIRST, get a parent or guardian’s permission--they MUST sign below indicating their willingness to participate.
- Oh and have fun!!!
